Buchanan High School’s East and West gyms were the site of this years’ Armenian Summer Games Basketball Games. The Junior Boys Division was very competitive and after a high spirited round robin tournament the Pasadena Homenmen and Fresno Sassoon made it to the finals. In the exciting championship game, Eric Honarchian scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Fresno Sassoon to a 49-44 victory over the Pasadena Homenmen. Edgar Sahakyan added 13 points, while Anthony Guzelian put in 8 points for the Fresno Sassoon team which ended the Tournament at 5-0.
The Open Men’s Division was also very competitive as eight teams battled for the crown. Glendale and Fresno Sassoon II emerged from the pack to play in the championship. Using his soft touch and height around the rim, Aaron Carlson poured in 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to give Fresno Sassoon II its fourth consecutive Open Men’s Championship with a 64-52 victory over the Glendale Homenmen. Carlson received the support of Vicken Esgejian (15 points) and Arakel Arisian (11 points). Glendale was paced by 20 points from Mike Tilkian, 18 of which came from beyond the 3 point line. Vicken Sepian scored 12 points and Koko Keshishian chipped in with eight points.
